Courageous conversations with young people in grief

Specialist topics

Following on from their earlier webinar on Grief in Children and Young People, Griefline offer this workshop-style session for practical takeaways on supporting our young people as they navigate grief.

The adolescent and teenage years are challenging as it is, let alone with grief in the mix. How do we connect and bond with our young people? How do we make them feel safe and supported?

With time for reflection and sharing, Griefline presenters Marianne and Bryan will focus on how we process emotion, along with strategies for releasing the heavy emotions associated with grief through conversation and other activities.

Date: Thursday 19 September 2024

Time: 10.30am - 12pm

Location: Zoom online

What you’ll learn:

  • How to be present to a young person’s grief.

  • Strategies to explore and process emotion in a healthy and life-enhancing manner.

  • Self-reflection prompts and exercises for carers and young people.

  • Ideas to get those difficult conversations started, and

  • A chance to practice these conversations.

While this session is designed for active participation, you are welcome to just listen and observe if you wish. As a trauma-informed organisation we know that hearing details of sudden or traumatic deaths or other disturbing content may be triggering. Although we talk about grief freely at Griefline, we do not go into details about the causes of death and ask all participants in Griefline workshops to be similarly mindful for their own, and others wellbeing, and ability to participate fully in the trainings.
